Your Spring Cleaning Checklist

spring cleaningFor many households, the melting of snow and blooming of flowers means it’s time for a spring cleaning session.
Spring cleaning not only helps you declutter your home; it can also improve your family’s overall health by killing germs and bacteria that have been living with you for months!
Here are a few areas of your home that you probably haven’t done a thorough cleaning in a while!
Your bathroom is one area of your home that needs to be sanitized daily to kill germs, bacteria, and mold that can cause allergic reactions and general illnesses.  When keeping surfaces like your sink and toilet bowl clean, you should also be wiping down walls in your bathroom. Mold thrives in moist environments and can trigger allergic reactions in susceptible people, so take some non-toxic cleaning products to your walls to wipe away traces of mold that have the potential to spread.
Another frequented area of your home, your kitchen invites the outside world to a seat at your kitchen table if you don’t clean it daily.  Be sure to regularly sanitize and dust off countertops, tables, and prepping stations as well as clean out your refrigerator for food that’s gone bad and spills.
Family Room/Living Room
Your living room is the communal area of your home where everyone sits back and relaxes. It is also home to dirt from everyone’s shoes, body oils and dead skin cells all over the couch, as well as germs all over the remote control.  The start of spring is the best time to give your carpet and couch a well-deserved shampooing and your furniture a good polishing/dusting to remove dirt and dust.
When was the last time you washed your sheets and comforter?  Washing your bedding can be a chore that you wish to put off but keeping your sheets clean is crucial to maintaining good health.  When you don’t take the time to wash your sheets, you encourage dead skin cells, dust mites, bed bugs, and during springtime, pollen to sleep in your bed.  The best way to avoid health risks from allergens and pests is to simply wash your sheets.
